There were two ways in which a wallet address qualified for the 17.5% (3,675,000,000 ZK tokens) airdrop:
-
Users (89%): ZKsync users who bridged funds onto ZKsync Era and met at least one of the seven eligibility criteria.
-
Contributors (11%): Individuals and entities who contributed to the ZKsync ecosystem through development, advocacy, education, or participation, irrespective of their ZKsync network usage.
Here’s a detailed breakdown of both scenarios:
-
Usage-Based Airdrop:
- Eligibility: Addresses transacting on ZKsync Era or Lite were checked against criteria such as smart contract interactions, paymaster activities, token trading, DeFi liquidity provision, holding specific NFTs, activity on ZKsync Lite, and Gitcoin donations.
- Allocation: Tokens were distributed based on a value-scaling formula. This formula considered the amount and duration of your crypto-assets on ZKsync Era. There was also more emphasis on DeFi usage.
- Multipliers: Additional allocation multipliers were awarded for activities like holding particular NFTs or tokens, using smart contract wallets, retaining airdrops, and early interaction with qualifying smart contracts.
- Sybil Detection: Heuristics identified and filtered bot behavior by examining the reuse of centralized exchange (CEX) deposit addresses and common funding patterns.
-
Contribution-Based Airdrop:
- GitHub Developers and ZKsync GitHub Discussion Helpers.
- External Projects, Protocol Guild, and ZKsync Native Projects.
Based on information from the smart contract address distributing the airdrop, the minimum allocation was around 900 ZK tokens. At the time of claiming, this was worth approximately $225. The maximum airdrop allocation was 100,000 ZK tokens, worth around $25,000.

Industry Support
Has backing from a well-known blockchain figure, Vitalik Buterin.
High Competition
Its popularity and funding mean more people competing for rewards, possibly reducing individual gains.
dApp Risks
dApps built on zkSync can carry scam and rug-pull risks, so caution is needed.
How to participate?
- Bridge Funds to zkSync: Transfer funds to the zkSync platform to boost your activity and the total amount you move across chains.
- Engage with the zkSync Ecosystem: Explore and use decentralized applications (dApps) on zkSync. Make various transactions to increase both your transaction count and the total volume of your activities.
- Provide Liquidity and Swap on DEX: Participate in decentralized exchanges (DEX) within zkSync. You can provide liquidity or swap assets to further increase your transaction volume and count.
- Interact with NFTs: Engage in activities related to Non-Fungible Tokens (NFTs) such as minting (creating), buying, or selling them to raise your transaction count and presence on the zkSync network.
- Join Questing Campaigns: Take part in questing campaigns like Galxe, Intract, Layer3, etc., within the zkSync ecosystem. These activities often involve minting NFTs or obtaining On-Chain Achievement Tokens (OAT), showcasing your active participation.
- Monitor Your Stats: Keep an eye on your user statistics using the Dune dashboard. Aim to be among the top participants by actively engaging in various activities on zkSync.
